Amazon named Uber Eats the official U.S. restaurant delivery partner for Prime on Thursday, Nov. 5, putting Prime Uber Eats ordering inside Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app with a $0 delivery fee on orders of $25 or more. Members do not need a separate Uber account. The same day, Amazon ended the Grubhub perk that had given Prime a free Grubhub+ membership since 2022.
Key Takeaways
- Prime members get $0 Uber Eats delivery fees on orders of $25 or more.
- No separate Uber account is required to order inside Amazon.
- Grubhub on Amazon ended Nov. 5, 2026; activated Grubhub+ lasts through 2027.
- Launch offers include $20 off two orders and 5% Prime Visa back.
What Prime Uber Eats Changes at Checkout
Prime members search “Uber Eats” on Amazon.com or in the Amazon Shopping app, browse nearby restaurants, and pay with an existing Amazon payment method. The benefit, detailed in Amazon’s announcement, is open to all Prime members, including Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access.
It can be shared with one adult through Amazon Family. Amazon sends email and push updates, and Uber Eats sends the final receipt.
- Search “Uber Eats” or open www.amazon.com/ubereats and sign in with Amazon credentials.
- Grant Uber access to the Amazon profile when asked, then pay with a saved Amazon method, as PCMag described.
- Follow Amazon’s delivery alerts; Uber Eats emails the final confirmation.
Amazon says the shelf includes hundreds of thousands of restaurants, reaching nearly every U.S. household. GeekWire reported nearly 10,000 cities and towns.
Amazon’s announcement says Uber Eats on Amazon reflects a broad restaurant selection similar to what is available on the Uber Eats app. PCMag noted some local restaurants may be missing, and neither company explained the gaps.
For the first 14 days, members get $20 off each of their first two orders of $25 or more. PCMag reported that window through Nov. 18. Prime Visa cardholders earn 5% back on Uber Eats orders through Dec. 5, 2026.
Amazon says shoppers could save more than $175 a year, more than the $139 annual Prime fee. The estimate is annualized from August 2026 order data and compares Amazon checkout with orders placed on Uber Eats without Uber One. Savings are not guaranteed.
Grubhub Prime Perk Ends the Same Day
An Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch the Grubhub agreement ends Thursday, and that Amazon continuously evaluates third-party offers. Members can no longer order Grubhub on Amazon.com or in the shopping app. Anyone who already activated Grubhub+ can still use that membership through Dec. 31, 2027.
Amazon offered free Grubhub+ in 2022 and made it an ongoing Prime benefit in 2024. It also reached a deal with then-owner Just Eat Takeaway.com to increase its equity stake to as much as 18%. Under that performance-based agreement, set to renew annually, Amazon could receive warrants for an additional stake.
Just Eat Takeaway later announced plans to sell Grubhub to Wonder. Amazon in December 2024 elected to cash out outstanding exercisable warrants, TechCrunch reported from Just Eat Takeaway’s annual report. The commercial partnership continued until this week.
Amazon told GeekWire it ended the deal after identifying “an opportunity to deliver an even better restaurant delivery experience.” PCMag reported the old perk included free Grubhub delivery on orders over $12.
Delivery Fee Waiver vs. Remaining Charges
A waived delivery fee is not a waived check. GeekWire reported that Amazon confirmed service fees still apply.
Members who already pay for Uber One keep that plan’s $0 delivery fees. Amazon said the memberships operate independently, and the Prime perk applies only to orders placed through Amazon.
PCMag noted that in some scenarios the $25 Prime minimum may even beat an Uber One subscription, whose free-delivery minimum varies. The Verge said service fees, local regulatory charges, driver tips, and menu markups still make up the bulk of what diners pay. It also said the $25 threshold is less practical for solo diners or casual lunch orders.
| Term | Grubhub Prime perk | Uber Eats on Amazon |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery fee | Free on orders over $12 | $0 on orders of $25 or more |
| Account | Grubhub+ with Prime | No Uber account required |
| Ordering on Amazon | Ended Nov. 5, 2026 | Live on Amazon.com and the Shopping app |
| After the switch | Activated Grubhub+ through Dec. 31, 2027 | Prime perk only on Amazon-placed orders |
Amazon Restaurants Shutdown Still Shapes the Deal
Amazon shut down Amazon Restaurants in 2019, four years after launching in Seattle and expanding to more than 20 U.S. cities, GeekWire reported. Uber had listed Amazon as an Uber Eats competitor in its IPO filing earlier that year. The Verge reported that partnering is cheaper than building perishable meal delivery from scratch.
TechCrunch noted deals spanning cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis, and Uber Eats inside Alexa+. GeekWire reported that Amazon made Alexa+ free for U.S. Prime members in February.
Uber Eats, DoorDash, and the Prime Audience
Uber gets access to tens of millions of Amazon Prime shoppers who already love getting things delivered, The Verge reported, without app-store ads. Prime subscribers who never created an Uber account can order takeout inside Amazon. DoorDash is the larger restaurant-delivery player, and The Verge described a landscape reshaped by the merging of DoorDash and Instacart.
Grocery-delivery ownership is also covered in Instacart sale talks.
“We’re excited to connect our restaurant community with new Prime fans, while giving them a seamless way to enjoy great food from restaurants through Uber Eats,” said Andrew Macdonald, president and chief operating officer of Uber.
